STEAM Part 3
It’s time to wrap up STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) Week! Today we’ll make some nature art with Dinosaur Train, become trailblazers, build a bridge, and read a book.
Watch Together
In this episode of Dinosaur Train, (Season 4, Episode 7: “Spinosaurus Super Model,”) Don tries to convince the Old Spinosaurus to pose for his sculpture. After watching you might ask your child:
Why do you think the Old Spinosaurus didn’t want to pose for Don’s sculpture?
How did Don feel when the Old Spinosaurus laughed at him?
What kind of features did the Spinosaurus have?
Can you find something in nature that looks like a dinosaur?

Be a Trailblazer!
Trailblazing is when you use different markings and symbols to create a trail in nature. These markings help people know where to turn and what to expect on your trail. Click below to download the Dinosaur Train trailblazing activity. Be sure to check out the examples of trail markings you can create with sticks, rocks, and other things you find in nature!

Can You Build a Bridge?
This STEAM challenge from Pre-K Pages was designed for a classroom setting, but you can easily do it at home using whatever building materials are available, such as blocks, cups, or even books. Invite your child to use the materials to help her toy animals, (or another item around the house), cross a river made with a piece of string or ribbon. She will have to use problem solving, critical thinking, and engineering skills to complete the challenge. And like any good scientist, she will want to test out her invention, reevaluate, and rebuild!

Cuddle Up and Read
Do you have any books related to STEAM topics? Pick one to read with your child or watch this read-aloud of Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh.
