Celebrate Dinosaur Train’s 100th Episode!

Dinosaur Train is celebrating 100 episodes, and you can join in the fun! After watching this special Father’s Day episode, your child can discover just how much 100 is by downloading their own Dinosaur Train hundreds chart. From there, they can fill in the chart with cereal, beads, or anything else!

Watch Together

In this episode of Word Party, (Season 2, Episode 9, “The Taste Test,”) Franny and Kip have a contest to see who can make the tastiest ice cream sundae. After watching, you might ask your child:

  • Which ice cream sundae looked yummy to you?

  • If you made an ice cream sundae, what would you put on it?

  • What flavor of ice cream do you think a real cheetah and wallaby would like?

  • Which of the five senses did the babies not use to enjoy their ice cream? Why do you think they didn’t use that one?

Make a Favorite Flavor Chart

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? How about the other people in your family? Follow these directions to make a chart that shows everyone’s preferences.

  1. On a large piece of paper, make a column with the names of each person in your household. Younger children could either draw a picture of each person or write the first letter of their names.

  2. Ask each person what his/her favorite flavor of ice cream is. Write the flavor name next to the person’s name. Younger children could draw an ice cream cone next to each name and color it the same color as the flavor, or they could write the first letter of each flavor.

  3. Compare the flavors, noting which had the most and least votes and which ones tied.

  4. Bonus: Put your findings to the test by having a family ice cream night!

Ice Cream Sensory Play

Fantastic Fun and Learning has a great way to let kids play with “ice cream” without getting all sticky! Try putting the following materials in a sand/water table, large plastic bin, or even a big mixing bowl, and watch your child whip up some yummy pretend sundaes.

  • Cotton balls

  • Sequins

  • Ice cream scoops or spoons

  • Real, plastic, or paper ice cream cones or plastic bowls
