Some of Our Favorite Fans Show Off Their Creativity…Now It’s Your Turn!

Announcing a new fan competition from DarkCrystal.com

Lisa Henson and Toby Froud sign copies of the new book release, "The Dark Crystal: The Ultimate Visual History," for fans.

Recently, Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company, attended DragonCon in Atlanta. The creativity on display among the more than 80,000 attendees was astounding! Fans from all over the world attend this Con to show off their artistry, imagination, and technical skills at recreating some of their favorite characters in an unparalleled parade of people-watching (errr…make that alien, robot, monster, fairy, elf and superhero-watching). It was especially thrilling to see so many Henson fans attend this event and show their love for projects like Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Fraggle Rock, and of course Jim Henson's original creation, the Muppets.

With the upcoming Netflix series in the works, there was a special buzz in the air about The Dark Crystal.  Lisa led panels about this classic fantasy film, sharing her insights on the many books that are continuing to expand The Dark Crystal universe. At a packed panel to celebrate the movie’s fans, there was no better time to announce our new contest from our website DarkCrystal.com.

Design a New Creature for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance!

If you have a young budding artist at home, this is for you!  Our newest contest is for anyone – really ANYONE! – who wants to try their hand at designing a creature that could live in the world of The Dark Crystal. Our Creature Shop will build the winning design and this new creature may also be seen in the new Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. (Parents can submit on behalf of their children; read the full contest rules.)

One of many amazing Dark Crystal cosplayers and builders at DragonCon.

One of the things that is most exciting about this new contest is that entries can be simple drawings. Amateurs welcome!  It is our hope that fans of all ages will reach into their imaginations and share their own creativity to design a small woodland creature that easily could live in The Dark Crystal universe.

So if you have not yet introduced your child to The Dark Crystal, now is the time! Many of the artists working in our Creature Shop have said that watching Jim Henson’s fantasy masterpiece inspired them to become artists. Perhaps this film and contest will inspire a new artist!  We can’t wait to find out!

NOTE:  Common Sense media recommends The Dark Crystal for kids ages 7+.  Read their review.
