Games Part 3
Games Week comes to an end today, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop playing! Today we’ll race trains with Dinosaur Train, make our own nature game, read a book, and play Red Light, Green Light.
Watch Together
In this clip from Dinosaur Train, the kids are along for the ride as different types of trains race each other. Who will be the winner?

Make Your Own Nature Game
Now is your chance to invent a game of your own! Decide on the rules to your nature game and gather any materials you need to play. Note: The game must take place outdoors, it cannot hurt anyone, and it cannot harm nature. Click below to download the “Make Your Own Nature Game” worksheet, fill it out, and then invite a family member to play.

Cuddle Up and Read
Encourage your child to choose a book about games, races, or anything else she would like to read. Or watch this read-aloud of Can I Play, Too? by Mo Willems. After reading, you might ask your child:
Why couldn’t the snake play catch?
How did Gerald and Piggie try to include the snake in their game?
Did that work?
What other games could the three friends play together?
Read along to the story here.
Red Light, Green Light
Here’s another game that builds patience, impulse control, and strategizing. To play, have one person stand at the opposite end of the room with her back facing the other players. When the leader is facing away from everyone, that’s a green light and the other players can move towards her. When the leader faces the group, it’s a red light and everyone has to freeze in place. Anyone caught moving by the leader has to move back to the starting line. The first player to touch the leader without getting caught moving wins!
