My Amazing Body Part 1

It’s My Amazing Body Week! Today we’ll learn body part names with Word Party, play Simon Says, read a book about our amazing bodies, and do some body artwork!

Watch Together

In this episode of Word Party, (Season 1, Episode 7: “Ouch!”), Bailey gets hurt while playing and needs help learning the name of his injured body part. After watching, you might ask your child:

  • What makes you feel better when you get an owie?

  • How do you help your friends when they get hurt?

  • Do you know what the name of Bailey’s hurt body part is?

  • What other body parts can you name?

Simon Says Game

Games like Simon Says are perfect for teaching young children the names of all their different body parts. When you play, be sure to include more familiar body parts, (head, leg, belly), as well as trickier ones, (elbow, wrist, ankle). Need a refresher on how to play Simon Says? Cuddle Up and Read

Invite your child to choose a book about bodies or anything else she would like to read. Or watch this read-aloud of Me and My Amazing Body by Joan Sweeney.

Body Paint Process Art

In this activity from Busy Toddler, your child can turn his body into a work of art! All you need is some paint, a large piece of paper, a little tape, and something to draw with. As with all process art, don’t get too hung up on what your child’s project looks like. Young children tend to be much more focused on enjoying the process than what the final product looks like!
