Sensory Play Part 2

Sensory Play week continues with more activities to engage your senses! Today we’ll explore loud and quiet with Word Party, make a rain stick sensory bottle, listen, smell, and touch with Dinosaur Train, and read a book about rain.

In this episode of Word Party, (Season 2, Episode 8: “Too Loud,”) the babies have to play quietly inside on a rainy day. After watching, you might ask your child:

  • How did the babies fix the problem when Kip and Lulu were being too loud?

  • What kinds of quiet activities do you like to do?

  • How about loud activities?

  • Do you like loud or quiet activities better?

Make a Rain Stick Sensory Bottle

Creating homemade musical instruments is a great way for kids to explore their senses and upcycle materials that would otherwise be thrown away. Chalk Academy has the scoop on turning a water bottle into a rain stick by adding rice, sticks, and anything else you have around the house!

Listen, Smell and Touch

Being in nature gives us so many chances to explore with our senses! We often use our eyes to experience nature, so this activity invites you to use some of your other senses: hearing, smell, and touch. Click below for the Nature Trackers Club instructions, and then start exploring! What is your favorite sense to use in nature?

Cuddle Up and Read

Grab a book about rain, sound, or anything else your child might like to read! Or watch this read-aloud of Come on, Rain! By Karen Hesse.
