On the Farm Week Part 1

It’s On the Farm week! Today we’ll read about some helpful farm animals, use Oobleck to retell the story, sing with Chester Racoon, and play an animal movement game.

Cuddle Up and Read

If you have any farm books, choose one to read with your child. Or, watch this read-aloud of Little Blue Truck by Alice Shertle. After reading, you might ask your child:

  • Which farm animals were in this book?

  • Did you hear any rhyming words? What were they?

  • What did the dump truck learn about kindness and helping others?

  • Can you think of some ways to be kind and helpful?

Read along to the story here.

Sing on the Farm with Chester Raccoon

Chester Raccoon has a new version of “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” and he wants you to join in the fun. Get ready to moo, oink, and cluck along!

Sing along with Chester here.

Move Like an Animal Game

Let’s get in some language development and gross motor skills practice with this movement game! Invite your child to brainstorm some animal movements and write each one on a separate slip of paper. Ex: Gallop like a horse. Flap like a chicken. Roll like a pig. You could either write the words for your child, help him to do so, or encourage him to draw a picture of each animal. Then, put the slips of paper in a hat, choosing one at a time for your child to act out.
